No Excuses...

Kyle Maynard is a unique college freshman and as his high school wre- stling coach puts it, "Kyle is one of the most amazing athletes that has ever lived..."

So who is Kyle Maynard? Kyle was born March 24, 1986 (HAPPY B'DAY KYLE!) with a rare condition known as Congenital Amputation that has left him with arms that end at the elbows and legs that end near his knees. He measures just over 3 ft tall and weighs approximately 55 kg.

Despite being born with these physical challenges, Kyle learned how to live life independently, became a top-class student at the University of Georgia, an award-winning wrestler, wrote and published a successful book No Excuses, and was asked to pose for Abercrombie and Fitch, all before turning even 20 years old!

As a child, Kyle's father stressed self-reliance, often telling his more sympathetic wife, "If he does not figure out how to eat on his own, he's going to starve." Sure enough, Kyle figured out how to eat on his own, and now can easily eat with standard silverware. He has impeccable handwriting and can type 50 words a minute. It is with the love and encouragement of his family, that Kyle has overcome his physical shortcomings to turn into the man he is today.

There is no doubt that Kyle's story is beyond inspirational. It sends a message of hope to those who must persevere in overcoming insur- mountable odds. What many of us would consider a handicap, Kyle uses as a gift. It is not only his attitude towards wrestling that endures him into the hearts of those he comes into contact with, but also, his passion and zest for life that is equally contagious. And yes, he may only stand 3 ft tall, but he is truly a giant amongst men.

I recognize PR8's sensitive touch. Admirable how you could manage to post it at his birthday too! I am sure it´s an excellent gift not only for Kyle, but also for everyone who happened to know anything about his story.
