VS200...

By the time you read this post, I'll be sitting comfortably (with my mp3 player on listening to Gaga) on the Virgin Atlantic flight to Hong Kong. See you all in two weeks time =]

Shout Out...

Bleached blonde hair, pumped-up muscle, flamboyant high fashion and a pair black killer stilettos are four things I would use to summerise the video of Shout Out To The Lonely by American singer-songwriter Joel Evan Tye, better known as Sir JET.

The song is catchy and dancy, and I love the idea of him transforming himself into a fabulous desert queen from a rugged masculine cowboy working in a barn. This is what you call - Express Yourself!

In the meantime, Sir JET has also begun a charity fundraiser to finance his upcoming music video, Like God, featuring a same-sex wedding and a song about identity and love. For more info on the project, visit the website here.

The Elixir Of...

Just got home from seeing L'elisir d'amore (The Elixir of Love) at the Royal Opera House and what a bravo production!

Set in an Italian village about 1800, L'elisir d'amore is about a naive peasant named Nemorino whose love for the wealthy and fabulous Adina allows him to believe that a magic 'elixir' sold by the quack doctor Dulcamara will charm her into his arms despite her rejection.

To me, it's so obvious that both Adina and Nemorino love each other, but instead of saying 'I love you' to each other's faces, they take turn to play hard-to-get, and suprise suprise, they miracally end up with a happy ending. Awww, isn't that sweet?

So does playing hard-to-get make you more attractive and get the person you love for? Well, personally, I hate mind games, and I think that I hate them because there's too much calculation involved behind and I always get in an infinite loop of thinking which is very annoying. So my answer would be NO!

Toreadore Toreadore...

So I went to see Bizet's Carmen at the ENO last night and what a great show it was. With some of the most beautiful and instantly recognisable music in all opera and one tastefully occluded scene of male nude, I have to say my £12.50 ticket was money well spent!

Oh, and I'm getting ready for L'elisir d'amore at the ROH tonight =]

What You Prefer...

Food For Thought...

Psychotherapist Matthew J Dempsey talks about the need for validation and how it plays out specifically in the lives of gay men.

The reason I'm sharing this is because 1) it's so relevant to The Velvet Rage, a great book I'm reading now, and 2) sometimes I feel like I'm living my life to please others rather than being 100% myself and living my life for me, i.e. I'm still craving for authentic validation either I'm still feeling ashame to be gay or I have a low self-esteem.

Do you guys have the same feeling as me?

Taboo...

I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening out when I went to see Taboo the musical at Brixton Club House. In a nutshell, Taboo tells the whirlwind story of Boy George, Marilyn, Leigh Bowery, as well as the main character Billy, the wannabe photographer, goes on his voyage of self-discovery in London during the 1980s.

Personally, I dunno much about Boy George's history other than he sang for Culture Club since I spent most of my 80s and early 90s living in Hong Kong, but the musical gave me a glimpse into his rise to fame. Overall, I had a great time, the cast were amazing and some really beautiful voices. So if you get a chance go and treat yourself with some Taboo, which is now extended through March 31st 2013!

Guilty Pleasure...

God, this guy is SO adorable and I can't help but smile at his photos =]

Three Parts...

There are three possible parts to a date, of which at least two must be offered: entertainment, food/drink and affection. It's customary to begin a series of dates with a great deal of entertainment, a moderate amount of food/drink, and the merest suggestion of affection. As the amount of affection increases, the entertainment can be reduced proportionately. When the affection IS the entertainment, we no longer call it dating. Under no circumstances can the food be omitted =]

Oh yeah, and did I not mention, SEX?

Intimate With...

Wow! Just got home from seeing Matt Alber (remember him from the video End Of The World) at The Horse and he's absolutely amazing! Not only he's a talented musican (both guitar and piano) with an incredible voice but he also has a good witty sense of humour, which makes the whole gig very intimate and enjoyable!

The thing I like a lot about Matt is that there's always a story or he so-called 'moment' behind each song he sings and in many cases finds a way to make the song touch us in the audience in a personal way.

Honestly, I highly recommend seeing him live if you get the chance! Thank you so much Matt and please come back to London again =]

Dare To Love...

I've been attending Pride London since 2008 but I've never attended a single Pride event in Hong Kong partly due to the timing of my holiday, but after watching this news report about this year's Hong Kong Pride Parade, which held over the weekend, I'm thinking I should definitely make it as one of my future plans!

Being brought up in Hong Kong, I can relate and understand how the traditional Chinese culture can affect and influence the way my LGBT brothers and sisters live, and because of that, I'm feeling extremely proud of their bravery to take their sexuality down to the streets and show the people in Hong Kong it's OK to be gay! Well done guys =]

P.S. I wonder if any of my blog readers from Hong Kong attended this year's Hong Kong Pride Parade? If yes, please share your experience with the rest of the world!

Wedding Surprise...

You gotta love Ellen! She's undoubtedly the queen of putting her guests in uncomfortable situations. In this case, it's the lovely bachelorette Miley Cyrus. Sweet =]

Brum...

Just got home from spending a lovely weekend at a friend's wedding reception in Birmingham aka Brum. Congratulations Alishah & Nirnep!

And by chance, I came across The Sexy Shop of Brum, which sells underwear, bras, nightwear, toys, accessories and mail order - WTF?

Oh, I also bought The 2nd Law, Muse's latest album. And OMG, it's such an awesome album! I literally repeated it in my car all the way from Birmingham to London. Explorers is by far my favourite track!

Four More Years...

Thanks to the American people for a very sensible decision. The vast majority of us across the world are breathing a heavy sigh of relief. I do believe that Obama is the right choice for the USA and, given the US global influence, the World. Well done Obama and GREAT SPEECH!

A Journey To...

Today I felt so... I can't even think of a word for it. Just SO INSPIRED after attending a debate/panel discussion organised by The Quest on 'What lies beneath the surface of the lives of today's gay men and what the future holds.'

"In an ideal world, gay men would be able to be who they want to be, comfortable in their own skin, free from the criticism and lathing of their peers and not typecast into socially acceptable personas. Yet, today's reality is that many gay men feel the need to be gym fit, socially extroverted, fabulous and fashion forward. Between this image of the ideal and the reality, there's a darkness and terrible shame hiding within the walls of this outwardly contented community.

In a city we no longer need to fight for our gay rights, we reach to a point where gay men are facing a 'mirror barrier', issues that lie within ourselves e.g. STDs, drugs and alcohol, depression, suicides, social dysfunction, dissatisfaction, destructive behaviours and relationships."

During the four-hour session, the panel and us, the audience, explored some close-to-my-heart topics like - understanding today's gay man, pride and prejudice, exploring the reasons for what lies beneath 'Gay Utopia', what does tomorrow hold for gay men, what does today's gay man want and how do gay men start building authentic futures.

Honestly, I took so much away from today's session. Not just for the sake of the gay community but for myself as a 33-year-old single gay man living in the big city of London.

I came to conclusion that in order for Willy to be happy, first I have to accept my sexuality and love myself as a man, not a gay man in a straight world. Second, take care of my sexual health. Third, spread the words and help others in need, which I'll do everything in my power through this blog!

Over the next couple of weeks, I'm gonna add a new section on the right sidebar called 'HELP OUT' which compiles a list of organisations and support groups that work towards making life easier for gay people. So make sure you check them out!

Gute Nacht x

Guilty Pleasure...

Now, here's a special treat for all the cubs or cub lovers of my blog. Serbian-Canadian photographer Drasko Bogdanovic has produced his Cub Camp 2013 calendar which gives us an excuse to drool over some sexy hairy bodies, especially the one in the shower!

The calendar is $20 and it's available for pre-order but for an extra $5, they'll generously throw in a Cub Camp cum rag. How exciting!

Skyfall...

I saw Skyfall tonight and it's only made me love Daniel Craig more than I already did! Personally, I agree with all the reviews that it's the best Bond film to date. It's 2 hours 30 minutes long but went so quickly and I had to try hard not to cry near the end. Guys, it's a must see!

Oh, may I just say that M, played by talented Judi Dench, has to be the BEST Bond girl ever! And Javier Bardem's camp, lispy, OTT Silva is without a doubt one of the greatest Bond villains I've seen to date.
